The 2012 ARFLI Season will get under way on Saturday the 28th of January as we belatedly celebrate Australia day with the second running of the Australian Embassy Plate. This year the plate will be decided by a one game contest between an Irish Warriors selection and the Ambassador’s selection. The game will take place at the Civil Service Grounds in Islandbridge at 1.30.

The AFL today announced that it has appointed Tadhg Kennelly in a development and coaching role. As part of this role Tadhg will spend time in Ireland working with elite athletes preparing them for a possible career in the AFL. He will also have a coaching role with the NSW/ACT u16 and u18 sides as well as being involved with the World XVIII on which European Players play in the NAB Championship.

Reports from Australia today have declared the latest risky surgery performed on Jim Stynes a success. Just weeks after being told nothing more could be done to save his life, Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld said that he was pleased by the outcome of an operation to remove the latest of Stynes' brain tumours.

The procedure was made possible through the effects of an experimental medicine which made it possible to operate at a time when Jim was planning a farewell barbeque. Family and former teammates are by Jim's side as he recovers.

This week we received a message from Paddy Gibbs in hospital in Perth. Paddy is recovering from a series of injuries incurred in his accident in Western Australia. Paddy has asked us to thank all those who attended the memorial services for his partner Kelly or took the time to contact him, his family or the Meehan family. We would like to wish Paddy all the best with his recovery and we hope to see him home safely in the new year.
