If consistency is the trait any team is looking for, the Redbacks have been the most consistent team of the decade, having contested six Grand Finals in a row. For all that, they’ve only come out on the right side in the showpiece event twice, in 2012 and 2014. Last year, they missed out to the Lions at the Mardyke and their rivalry with the Leesiders is renewed first up in Round 1 this coming Saturday.
The side which has delivered so regularly, looks to have stayed intact, bar the loss of Gareth Baird, for the 2017 season and they may be less affected by the International Cup at crucial times with players like Kevin McSorley and Ryan McCloskey absenting themselves this year. They will of course have Warriors in large number too – Davey McElhone, Stuart McKeating, Gerard Walls, Sean Paul Henry, Brendan Kelly as well as recent recruit Declan Alder, previously a stalwart with Manchester Mosquitoes and fresh from a year playing in Australia.
