The Pies come into their 9th Premiership season somewhat under the radar. While the club has played pre-season against the UCC Bombers, there has been no form guide such as the Lions or Redbacks to judge where their base level is. What we know is that they will be well coached, with Shaun ‘Smurf’ Murphy again at the helm, but of course doing so on the field. They have impact players in National team players John White, David McGinty and new Captain Kevin ‘Dougal’ McDonnell, as well as seasoned veterans around the ground. Founding President Tony McAffee is back at the helm for a second year, having taken a back seat for a while, so they will be driven, and as the only club of the four Premiership sides still to win a flag, their hunger will be as great, if not greater than their competition.

The club has consistently proven themselves to be capable of beating any other team on a given day, so they will certainly have a big say in the destination of this year’s title, but they probably come in to the season as rank outsiders for the title.
