Round 3: Match Reports (Re-fixture)
Dublin Saints 06.02 (38) vrs 10.16 (76) Dublin Demons
Dublin Demons Report:
The ever friendly but competitive rivallry between the Demons and the Saints
took on a steelier edge, for this novel mid week fixture, given some
pre-matchbanter about postponemnt/ numbers etc. All that went out the window
when both side rocked up to Parnells and eager to play.
The Saints
were even more determined than usual and this showed with a great first quarter
performance which saw them a goal ahead at quarter time. There was some good
Demons work in the middle from Kruger, Bernie, Mick and Declan, but a dogged
Saints centre and defence saw precious ball go to the Demon forwards , with only
2 inside fiftys for the quarter , both marked by Dee resulting in one major and
the Demons only six pointer for the quarter. Only for great work from the Dees
defence, most notably Walshy at full back who was marking the in form Franc, and
new man Ray, the Dees could have faced a greater quarter time deficit.

Round 4: Match Reports
South Dublin Swans 06.14 vrs 07.05 Midland Tigers
Swans Match Report: Congrats to the lads on the
weekends game for a hard fought 3 point win over the mullingar tigers. The first quarter saw
the Swans come out firing on the small pitch, however this didn’t show on the
scoreboard with the tigers slightly up at the qtr time break. Goals were scarce
in the next few qtrs but the tigers managed to maintain their slender lead of 2
goals going into the final break. Some stirring words at 3 qtr time from Scotty
put the wind up the boys and the swans came out firing kicking a couple of goals
to cut the lead. To the tigers credit they continually pushed forward kicking a
couple in the last quarter but some great work all over the ground by the swans
saw the forward line snap into some great action by posting 4 majors for the
quarter and holding on to the final siren.
Special note, the swans
definitely need some goal kicking practice after posting a final score of 6.14
to 7.5. Some of the highlights of
the day:

Glasgow trip 2008. Another one to add to the list. What a trip.
First of all, big thank you to the 3 players from the Saints who travelled and played for the Demons. Smithy, Rob and Lloydy. And a big thanks to Pat Leavy from the Tigers. Thanks guys. You were badly needed and a big asset to the squad.
Second, a big thank you to Pete and Lorcan who came along and played too. Fair play to ye lads.
Third, thank you to the Glasgow Sharks. Even after being messed around by the council with the pitches you somehow pulled it out of the bag and put on a great show. |

If you thought Irish footy was rough.....
August is the is the date for the Aussie rules international cup. One of the countries involved will be Nauru which has high hopes, after all AFL is its national sport. Amazingly the worlds smallest island nation hasn't had an AFL league for almost two years after their local tournament was disbanded due to violence on and off the pitch.

Round 3: Match Reports
South Dublin Swans 09-18(72) vrs 07-04(46) Leeside Lions
Lions Match Report:
The
Leeside Lions kicked off their 2008 premiership campaign last Saturday
against the Swans in Terenure. Terenure has never been the greatest of hunting
grounds for the Lions but a combination of new and old faces headed off to
Dublin to take up the challenge of the Swans. The Lions lost the toss and
played into the wind in the first quarter. The Swans took advantage of the
wind early on and put the Lions defence under a good deal of pressure. Tight
marking from the Lions saw the Swans reduced to shooting from tight angles and
limited the effectiveness of the wind.
The Lions started the second quarter
brightly and quickly notched 3 goals through Liam O’Connor (2) and James
Flavin. However the Swans matched the Lions score for score to lead at
halftime. As the wind dropped the game developed into a tough clean contest
with good skills on show from both sides. James Flavin and Cougar both chipped
in with quality goals. The Lions battled gamely for the last 2 quarters but
could not pull back the lead established by the Swans. Additional goals came
from Cian Flavin and Cougar. The final score saw the Swans run out winners by 4
goals on a scoreline of 9-18 to 7-4.
Best
on the day for the Lions were James Flavin, Cougar, Podge, Liam O’Connor and
Sully.
Well
done to the lads that made their debuts.
Training continues at UCC’s facilities in Bishopstown
(Adjacent to the Greyhound stadium) every Wednesday at 7pm. All welcome. Please
see www.leesidelions.ie for
directions and more details.

O'hAilpins running out of time?
THE day after Carlton's lack of seasoned tall defenders and
ruckmen were exploited by Essendon, 199-centimetre Setanta
O'hAilpin ran around with the Northern Bullants in the VFL, while
his 200-centimetre brother Aisake languished in the Bullants'
reserves.
Aisake's demotion was part disciplinary. He had been dropped to
the VFL twos following an on-field spat with Matthew Lappin, the
veteran ex-Blue who has a joint coaching and playing role with
Carlton's VFL affiliate.
Tonight, Setanta will be named in Carlton's 25-man squad, but he
is unlikely to be selected in the 22 for the Collingwood game.
Aisake might get back to the VFL seniors. Or he might not. Aisake
is in his third season at Carlton and is yet to play a senior
game.

Demons Report:Demons 11.11(77) vrs Tigers 04.08(32) The Dublin Demons lined up against the Midland
Tigers in Blanchardstown on the 5th April for round 2 of the aussieproperty.com
Premiership. The Demons were well represented on the day with the entire squad
finally available. After a nervy first quarter the Demons lead by a solitary
goal despite having a favourable breeze at their backs. After some harsh words
at half time the demons went out in dominated the second quarter with goals from
Toasty, Neil and two from Razor.
The third quarter continued along the same
lines as the demons extended their lead again with some fine goals from Plugger,
Neil and Ben. The momentum tailed off somewhat in the final quarter and despite a
fine goal from walshy the tigers managed to pull a few goals back. The demons
victory was thanks in no small part to the dominance of the midfield with Bubba,
Kruger and James excelling!
Goal Scorers: Plugger (3), Toasty(2), Razor(2),
Neil, Walshy, Ben, Neval
Demon of the day: Walshy

Kennelly to make Gaelic football return
Irish defender Tadhg Kennelly has confirmed he will leave Sydney and return to Gaelic football - but not in 2009.
Kennelly, 27, refuted an Irish newspaper report that he would quit
the AFL next year and link with his old Gaelic football club Kerry.
Kennelly - off contract at the end of the 2009 season - is quoted in
The Irish Mail saying he will "try to win an All-Ireland title" with
Kerry. "I'm definitely going home next year to try to win an All-Ireland medal," the Irish newspaper quoted him as saying.
However, Kennelly said a Gaelic football return was only in his long term plans.
"It's totally wrong. I'm signed with the Swans for two years, it's a
mis-report that has come from home," he said in Brisbane ahead of
Saturday night's clash with the Lions at the Gabba.
