ARFLI Premiership
The Aussieproperty.com ARFLI Premiership is Ireland's premier club competition played by all of our elite adult teams. The competition has been in existence since 2001, and has been won on four occasions by the Leeside Lions from Cork and on three Occasions by the Dublin Demons. This year players must register online before they can play in the Premiership, they can do this by going to the player registration section of the website and completing the Premiership Registration form. The 2010 Aussieproperty.com Premiership Commences this saturday with one Round 1 Meeting in the Eastern Conference. The game in question will be the first of many Dublin Derbys this year as the West Dublin Saints take on the Super 9s winning South Dublin Swans. This year a record eight clubs will compete in the Premiership with one new team and two re-formed clubs joining the five clubs that contested it last season. This year the Premiership will be divided into two conferences, with the four clubs contesting six home and away rounds in these regional divisions and another two rounds which are cross conference which were drawn at random. The Eastern Conference would appear to be very strong, and with only two teams guaranteed semi-final placings there should be a real battle to progress to the finals. The Belfast Redbacks, a founding member of ARFLI have returned and having recruited very well will be a major chance home and away. The reigning Premiers, the Dublin Demons have retained many of last years players and began the season well winning the Haggis Cup in Glasgow. The South Dublin Swans, like Belfast have recruited well and were very impressive in the Super 9s, there players too have been very impressive in the early rounds of the Draft Cup. The West Dublin Saints can't be discounted either, they have lost some club stalwarts but looked very good in qualifying for the Cup Pool of the Super 9s. In the West, with one new club; the Clare Crows returning after an absence of a couple of years and the Tigers having lost many players - the clear favourites would appear to be the Leeside Lions. Galway's first club the Midwest Magpies have recruited well and will hope to have a competitive debut season. Both Clare and the Tigers have experience so there should be quite a battle for that coveted second spot. Who knows though what types of players the clubs will pick up over the course of the season or how others will mature, so again there could be upsets on the cards.
